The Brook at Stowe Hill
All my landscapes, whether realistic or abstract, are inspired by actual places. Last winter my husband Joe and I spent some time with our good friends Linda and Joe at their house in the Vermont mountains. We spent time hiking with their dogs, Hadrian, June Bug and Froto in the woods near their house. It was one of the first snowfalls of the season, you know, the kind that makes you nostalgic for one of the first snowfalls of your life. The blanket of snow created a quiet stillness that was almost mystical. The silence broken only by the dogs’ tags as they ran, and by the gentle trickling of the brook as we passed it.
I’m not a big fan of winter. I much prefer the warm summer days when I can look forward to getting out on the Branford harbor on my paddle board. But I’m a sucker for the first snow of the season. It always brings me back to a place that I can only describe as ... home.
